Biden Administration Stabs Gun Control Partners in the Back with Treacherous Overreach

Moderate members of both political parties are criticizing the Biden Administration for its recent move to defund longstanding scholastic archery and hunter education programs under a recently passed gun control law. The programs, which have no demonstrable connection to crime or violence, are the latest innocent victims of the misnamed Bi-Partisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA). The episode reinforces two critically important lessons that any pro-gun legislator should remember. One: there is no such thing as harmless gun control. Two: Moderates who join forces with anti-gun extremists will eventually be embarrassed by the partnership.

Far More Gun Owners than Gun Controllers Pretend

Part of the gun control advocates’ narrative includes the claim that the number of gun owners in the U.S. is falling. The obvious goal of this messaging campaign is to convince policymakers that they need not consider the rights or the democratic will of this supposedly diminishing portion of the population. A new study has revealed that survey data purporting to show the number of gun owners in the U.S. is of dubious value and is likely a severe undercount.

Biden’s attempt to regulate pistol braces dealt blow after appeals court casts doubt on constitutionality

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans said Tuesday the Biden administration’s rule requiring registration for the braces was unlikely to survive a legal challenge.

The panel voted 2-1 to extend the block on enforcement for 60 days and send the case back to U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Texas. Judge O’Connor will now consider whether to block enforcement nationwide.

NRA slaps Biden admin with lawsuit over ‘unlawful’ pistol brace rule

The National Rifle Association of America slapped the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with a lawsuit over a rule that regulates stabilizing braces for pistols.

In a lawsuit filed Monday, the NRA aims to expose “the failings of the new rule – which subjects law-abiding gun owners to penalties, fines, and potential prison sentences for the use of an otherwise legal plastic apparatus on some firearms.”

Federal judge in Texas blocks Biden ATF pistol brace rule on day of deadline to register weapons

A federal judge in Texas has temporarily blocked President Biden’s new regulations on pistols with stabilizing braces in response to a lawsuit from gun rights activists.

Judge Drew B. Tipton of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas on Wednesday granted a preliminary injunction against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) partially preventing the agency from enforcing its new stabilizing-brace rule. The order came on the deadline before the rule goes into effect in response to a lawsuit filed by Gun Owners of America (GOA), the Gun Owners Foundation and the State of Texas.

Could Hunter Biden be the next poster child for Second Amendment rights?

Hunter Biden could soon find himself in a surprising position: at the cutting edge of the fight to strengthen the Second Amendment.

The president’s son is the target of a Justice Department investigation scrutinizing his purchase of a gun in 2018 — a time when he has said he was regularly using crack cocaine. Federal law bans drug users from owning guns.

But the constitutionality of that law — like many other provisions restricting gun ownership — is newly in question after a precedent-rocking decision the Supreme Court handed down almost a year ago.

His lawyers have already told Justice Department officials that, if their client is charged with the gun crime, they will challenge the law under the Second Amendment……

Hypothesis or Hyperbole Gun Control Researchers Balk at Betting on Gun Control

Dr. John Lott, Jr., a leading researcher and founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), recently embarked on an unusual personal experiment: how many pro-gun control academics would literally bet in favor of their own findings, using Brazil as a case study?

……Brazil offers a unique research opportunity because, as Lott notes, many American gun control advocates discount the evidence of increased murder rates following the implementation of local gun ban laws, on the basis that “the ban could only work if the entire country instituted the same rules.” Brazil represents such a “country-wide case” in which to explore the strength of this “less guns, less crime” hypothesis.

…..“These academics have no problem confidently making predictions for the press or legislative committees about the future effects of gun-control laws,” writes Lott. “But they aren’t willing to put their money where their mouths are in a way that would make people remember their bad predictions. Maybe that’s because they already know the crime-fighting benefits of private gun ownership.”

No, children are not more likely to die by guns than motor vehicles

Another year brings about another opportunity for gun control activists and their media lackeys to manipulate CDC fatal injury data to push a misleading factoid on children and firearms.

This is how it works: Step one, acquire statistics on firearm-related deaths among children ages 1-14. Step two, combine that relatively low number with the far greater number of firearm-related deaths involving juveniles and young adults ages 15-19, or even ages 15-24. Step three, present the resulting data as the shocking number of “children” (ages 1-19 or 1-24) who are subjected to “gun violence” each day/week/month/year. Step four, use the disingenuous statistic to advocate for pre-determined gun control policies.

North Carolina: Right-to-Carry Expansion and Permit-to-Purchase Repeal VETOED by Gov. Cooper

Unfortunately, Governor Roy Cooper vetoed Senate Bill 41, a bill that recognizes law-abiding citizens’ right to self-defense while attending a church with a school attached and also repeals the redundant permit-to-purchase system.  This was expected from the anti-gun Governor who has a proven track record of trampling on the Second Amendment rights of North Carolinians.

Gov. Cooper’s veto message falsely claims that Senate Bill 41, “will allow more domestic abusers and other dangerous people to own handguns.” He has shown law-abiding gun owners another reason why they must always be ready to vote to elect officials who will work to protect their rights.

Bipartisan support for the self-defense bill in the General Assembly may indicate the potential for an override of Governor Cooper’s veto.  Cooper vetoed similar legislation in 2021 and 2020
