8/30/05 House Bill 413 removed from legislative calendar

The bill that NC Senator Tony Rand hijacked for his anti-gun friends and rammed through the Senate has been removed from the House legislative calendar.

The bill was sent to the House for concurrence with the changed Senate version.  Instead of concurring, House leadership re-referred the bill to a committee, where we hope the egregious language contained in Section 16, creating an "Illegal Handguns Trafficking Study Commission," will be removed.

We believe the House leadership took this action because of your efforts to stop the legislative trickery engaged in by Senator Rand.  NCRPA appreciates your actions.  We hope this will be the end of this particular threat, but we're keeping careful tabs on House Bill 413 (and other bills) to make sure a similar trick isn't tried again.  We will keep you updated.

You can read the text of the bill as modified by Senator Rand here (go to Sections 16.1 and 16.2):
