NCRPA NewsState Associations Band Together to Fight DC Gun Ban.The NC Rifle and Pistol Association has joined with 30 other state associations from across the US to file an amicus brief with the US Supreme Court. The purpose of this brief is to fight imposing the fire arms ban in the District of Columbia. Fighting this action is of the utmost importance for America's gun owners as a decision by the Supreme Court to support the DC gun ban will probably lead to gun bans across the country. An amicus brief is a statement to the court that details why, in our opinion, they should support a pending action. The NRA is also filing its own amicus brief. The brief that the NCRPA is supporting emphasizes the importance of self-defense. The following is a brief definition of an amicus brief as found on the on-line encyclopedia Wikipedia. “Amicus curiae (plural amici curiae) is a legal Latin phrase, literally translated as "friend of the court", that refers to someone, not a party to a case, who volunteers to offer information on a point of law or some other aspect of the case to assist the court in deciding a matter before it. The information may be a legal opinion in the form of a brief - testimony that has not been solicited by any of the parties - or a learned treatise on a matter that bears on the case. The decision whether to admit the information lies with the discretion of the court.” Read more about the DC Gun Ban click here
